Towns we actually drive

Each town page has a local note (housing, weather, or the county line) and links back to the remediation process plus two or three services.

• Gettysburg Borough

  The borough is the county seat, wrapped by the military park. The housing stock is older brick and stone — not a 2015 subdivision with the same wet-drywall speech.

• Hanover, PA

  Hanover is the commercial pull on the east side of Adams County. Most of the borough sits in York County — we still treat the corridor as a real job area.

• Littlestown, PA

  Southern Adams, PA-194, a few miles from Maryland. Town lots from the 1800s sit next to ranch additions with wet crawl spaces.

• Fairfield, PA

  Western Adams, mountain edge. Cooler hollows, more trees, older stone and frame houses that do not dry the way a new subdivision does.

• Biglerville, PA

  Northern Adams, orchard country. Farmhouses, dirt crawls, and harvest-season humidity — not a downtown brick-row problem.

• McSherrystown, PA

  Small eastern Adams borough, tight against Hanover. Older houses, small lots, and walls that are closer to the neighbor than in the borough of Gettysburg.

• Bonneauville, PA

  East of Gettysburg on PA-116. A small borough with older houses plus newer streets that still take on water in the basement.

• New Oxford, PA

  US-30 east of Gettysburg. Antique-district downtown, older commercial-residential buildings, and houses that leak at the same flashings every winter.

• East Berlin, PA

  Northeastern Adams, small historic borough on Conewago Creek. Older houses, some lots that sit wet, and a long drive if you only call a Harrisburg tester.

• Cumberland Township

  Cumberland Township wraps Gettysburg borough and a large share of the military park. The houses here are farmhouses, park-edge brick, and later homes on former fields — not a downtown row.

• Straban Township

  Straban is the township east of the borough, from Hunterstown down toward the US-15 commercial strip. Farms and newer subdivisions share the same humid summers.

• Mount Joy Township

  Mount Joy Township is south of the borough along the Baltimore Pike, including Two Taverns and the Lake Heritage community. It is not Mount Joy in Lancaster County.

• Mount Pleasant Township

  Mount Pleasant Township surrounds Littlestown and runs to the Maryland line. Humidity here behaves like the northern Piedmont, and the houses are a mix of borough-edge homes and farms.

• Franklin Township

  Franklin Township is northwest of Gettysburg, along US-30 toward the mountain. Cashtown and Orrtanna are the villages. The houses are older, and the hollows stay damp.

• Highland Township

  Highland is a mountain township west of Gettysburg, formed in 1863 from pieces of Cumberland, Franklin, and Hamiltonban. Population is thin. The hollows are not.

• Freedom Township

  Freedom Township sits south of Cumberland and west of Mount Joy, between the battlefield and the mountain townships. It is rural, and the basements are still Adams County basements.

• Butler Township

  Butler Township is orchard country around Biglerville. The soils drain better than diabase clay, and the old farmhouses still have wet cellars.

• Germany Township

  Germany Township has no downtown of its own. It is the farm and lane country between the Gettysburg side and Littlestown, and the houses show that.

• Hamilton Township

  Hamilton Township is eastern Adams, around East Berlin. The borough has the square. The township has the farms and the houses just outside it.

• Hamiltonban Township

  Hamiltonban Township is the mountain ground around Fairfield, including Iron Springs. It is cooler, more wooded, and older in the walls than the borough grid.

• Huntington Township

  Huntington Township is northern Adams County, around York Springs. It is farm country, closer to the Cumberland County line than to the battlefield.

• Latimore Township

  Latimore is the far north of Adams County, near Idaville and the Cumberland County line. The drive is longer than a borough job. The houses are still in the county we serve.

• Liberty Township

  Liberty Township is southwest Adams, on South Mountain, around the Borough of Carroll Valley. Slope houses and shaded lots are the mold story.

• Menallen Township

  Menallen Township is the northern fruit belt: Bendersville, Aspers, and the orchard roads between them. The cellars are old even when the trees are new.

• Oxford Township

  Oxford Township surrounds New Oxford on the Lincoln Highway. The borough has the center. The township has the edge lots and the farms beyond them.

• Reading Township

  Reading Township is northeast Adams, including Hampton and the Lake Meade community. Lake houses and farms share a township and not a floor plan.

• Tyrone Township

  Tyrone Township is the Heidlersburg area, east of Straban and south of the northern fruit belt. There is no Tyrone borough here. The village is the center.

• Union Township

  Union Township is small, drawn in 1841 from Conewago, Germany, and Mount Pleasant. It sits between Bonneauville and Littlestown, and it has no borough of its own.

• Conewago Township

  This is Conewago Township in Adams County, not the Conewago Township in York County. It is the ground on the Hanover side of the county, around McSherrystown.

• Berwick Township

  Berwick Township is the far east of Adams County, around Abbottstown, where US-30 meets the York County line. The borough is small. The township is the rest.

• Abbottstown Borough

  Abbottstown is a small borough on the Lincoln Highway in Berwick Township’s geography. The lots are tight, the houses are older, and the cellars are close to the road.

• Arendtsville Borough

  Arendtsville is a small fruit-belt borough west of Biglerville, in the orchard country of Menallen and Butler. The streets are tight and the cellars are old.

• Bendersville Borough

  Bendersville is a small borough on PA-234 in Menallen Township’s fruit belt. A few blocks of older houses, then orchards. The cellars match the age, not the traffic.

• Carroll Valley Borough

  Carroll Valley is a planned borough on South Mountain in southwest Adams, next to Liberty Mountain. Houses are on slopes. Lower levels are walkouts, and the uphill wall is buried.

• York Springs Borough

  York Springs is a small borough in northern Adams, between Huntington and Latimore. The center is a few streets. The cellars are the old kind.
